A World Wide Learning Program
On Yom Hazikaron join thousands of Jews around the world learning in the merit of our fallen soldiers and victims of terror in Israel. Together, in less than 24 hours, we will begin and complete siyumim in:
Each participant will receive
- The name of a fallen soldier or terror victim to learn for.
- There is an option to learn for a specific fallen soldier or terror victim.
- Mizrachi Canada has put together a Learning group to join

On Yom Haatzmaut, there is a custom in Israel to honour exemplary individuals who represent different facets of communal life by inviting them to light the Yom Haatzmaout Torch. Mizrachi Canada would like to honour community members who have shown extraordinary commitment to the Jewish community in the following categories:

Sivan Rahav Meir
Sivan Rahav-Meir is a media personality and lecturer. Married to Yedidya, the mother of five. Lives in Jerusalem, and is currently with her family on shlichut, serving as the World Mizrachi Shlicha to North America, where she lectures in various communities. She works for Israel TV news, writes a column for Yediot Aharonot newspaper, and hosts a weekly radio show on Galei Zahal (Army Radio). Her lectures on the weekly Torah portion are attended by hundreds and the live broadcast attracts thousands more listeners throughout the world. Sivan lectures in Israel and overseas about the media, Judaism, Zionism and new media. She was voted by Globes newspaper as the most popular female media personality in Israel and by the Jerusalem Post as one of the 50 most influential Jews in the world.

Miriam Peretz
Miriam Peretz (born 1954) is an Israeli educator who lost two sons during their army service. Miriam lectures around the world on Zionism and living with loss and was the recipient of the Israel Prize for Lifetime Achievement in 2018.
Peretz was born and raised in Casablanca, Morocco. In 1963, her family immigrated to Israel. Miriam later earned a BA in Literature and History from Ben Gurion University. She married Eliezer Peretz and they moved to Ophira.
On November 25, 1998 Peretz’s oldest son, Lieutenant Uriel Peretz, 22, was killed in an ambush in south Lebanon. His father, Eliezer Peretz, died a short time later at the age of 56. On March 26, 2010, her second son, army major Eliraz Peretz, was killed in battle at the Gaza strip.
Peretz has devoted her time to imparting Jewish and Zionist messages to youth and IDF soldiers. Miriam wrote a book, “Shirat Miriam,” about the story of her life.

Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau
Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau served as the Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv, Israel and Chairman of Yad Vashem. He previously served as the Askenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel from 1993 to 2003.
Lau was born on 1 June 1937, in the Polish town of Piotrków Trybunalski. His father, Rabbi Moshe Chaim Lau, the last Chief Rabbi of the town, was murdered in the Treblinka extermination camp. Yisrael Meir is the 38th generation in an unbroken family chain of rabbis.
Lau immigrated to Israel with his brother Naphtali in July 1945, where he was raised by an aunt and uncle, and studied in the famous yeshiva Kol Torah under Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach as well as in Ponevezh and Knesses Chizkiyahu. He was ordained as a rabbi in 1961

Jonathan Medved
Jonathan “Jon” Medved (born 16 September 1955) is a serial entrepreneur, venture capitalist and angel investor in Israel’s high-tech scene. He is the founder and CEO of OurCrowd, a leading equity crowdfunding platform.OurCrowd was started in 2013 and has its global headquarters in Jerusalem with additional offices in Tel Aviv, San Diego, New York, Toronto, London, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Sydney. As of November 2018, OurCrowd has raised $800M in 160 startup companies and venture funds in its portfolio Medved was named one of the “50 Most Influential Jews” by the Jerusalem Post, where he was dubbed “the startup nation’s guru.”Jon lives in Jerusalem with his wife Jane, their children and grandchildren.

Shai Abramson
Shai Abramson was born in Jerusalem and was exposed early on to the world of cantorial music. In 2008, he was appointed Chief Cantor of the Israel Defense Forces. Abramson serves as the representative cantor of the State of Israel, in Israel and abroad. He has performed as cantor and singer under the auspices of the Knesset, the IDF, the Ministry of Defense and other government ministries and agencies.
