About The Mizrachi Beit Midrash

The Mizrachi Beit Midrash is a dynamic Religious Zionist learning centre located in the heart of Thornhill.

This community Beit Midrash promotes and supports independent Torah learning, chavrutot, small study groups and shiurim, while instilling deep within the consciousness of the community the centrality of Israel in Jewish life

The Mizrachi Beit Midrash is a welcoming, accessible, intergenerational and participatory place of learning where everyone can feel comfortable growing and learning at their own pace.

The Beit Midrash Team

Rav AZ (Avraham Zvi) Thau, Shaliach

After completing Smicha through Mizrachi and finishing his degree at Machon Lev in Business Management, and after completing 10 years at Yeshivat Hakotel where he served in multiple rolls, AZ Thau is now here in Toronto on Shlichut for Mizrachi with his family.

Hadassah Thau, Shlichah

Hadassah Thau has a degree in Business Administration from IDC Herzliyah. She has experience in event planning and is working for Mizrachi Canada as a project manager on initiatives such as the Mizrachi Beit Midrash at the BAYT.

Rabbi Lesher, Assistant Rabbi at the BAYT

Rabbi Shmuel Lesher was a Machon Beren Kollel Elyon fellow at Yeshiva University (RIETS). Before completing his rabbinic ordination at RIETS, Rabbi Lesher studied at yeshivot including Yeshivas Mir Yerushalayim and Yeshiva Gedolah of YGW. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling at the Ferkauf School of Psychology, and serves as the Assistant Rabbi at the BAYT.

Monday Nights - 8:00PM

Join us every Monday night for an open Beit Midrash where anyone can come and learn in the Mizrachi Beit Midrash.

Bring a chavruta. Learn independently. Join a chabura. All learning is available and welcome.

Thursday Night Mishmar

Thursday Nights - 8:15PM

Cholent, Kugel, and Torah Learning… What Could be Better?

Join us Thursday nights at the Mizrachi Beit Midrash for a shiur-based Mishmar learning program. Starting with a halacha shiur, followed chassidut and reflections on the parsha, and concluding with Maariv.

Women's Beit Midrash Night

Once a month, the Mizrachi Beit Midrash will host a women’s learning initiative which will consist of Beit Midrash style learning, a shiur, and refreshments.

Horim Veyeladim - Parent Child Learning

Motzei Shabbat - 6:45 PM

Weekly Motza’i Shabbat learning for parents and children of all ages.

Enjoy a curated learning program that will include fun incentives and activities to keep children engaged.

About The Young Family Minyan

Our Beit Midrash model is designed to build community, to engage the next generation of families, empower religious growth, and to provide members with inspiring role models. The minyan aims to have meaningful tefillot, and religious experiences that engage the family as a whole, men, women and children together, so families can grow religiously together.
